Handball - Nigeria Eyes African Nations Cup


Nigeria is seeking to extend its sub-regional dominance at the forthcoming 19th African Handball Championships for Men billed to hold in Cairo-Egypt from February 10 to February 21, 2010.

According to the Nigeria Handball Federation (NHF) the country's team will be handled by the Technical Adviser, Baba Isa Alabi, who will be assisted by the chief coach is Rafiu Salami, a France based premier league coach, and FRSC Abuja coach, Bala Mohammed Khalifa.

The following players have been invited to the national team camp in Kaduna.

They are Saka Salau (Road Safety); Emmanuel Ogbare (Kano Pyramid); Muktari Ibrahim (Road Safety); Tele Dada (Niger United); Shehu Aliyu (Niger United); Abdullahi Mohammed (Niger United); Bala Mohammed (Road Safety); Tope Akande (Road Safety); Emma David (Road Safety) and Philip Kalu (Kano Pyramid).

Others are Jacob Ayuba (Kano Pyramid); Udale Joseph (Kano Pyramid); Emmanuel Omale (Plateau Vipers); Danjuma Mohammed (Sokoto Rima); Aliyu Usman (Road Safety); Edafe Ewerode (Delta); Samora Samuel (Nigerian Army); Friday Ejembi (Benue Buffaloes); Ayaka Ben (Benue Buffaloes) and Promise Ogbonnaya (Road Safety).

Meanwhile, six professional players called up from Israel namely, Babatunde Abdulrasheed and Femi Tunji (Ramat Hasaroon Handball Club of Isreal); Chukwuemeka Ejike, John Onche and Shittu Adewumi (Maccabi Tel-aviv) and Obinna Theophilus (Kirila Sharet Handball club).

The top 3 teams will qualify for the World Championships in January, 2011 in Sweden.
